Para Siempre (A. Pontier, F. Silva) |
The recording from the remaining 1966 sessions were edited together on the long play record "Bailate Un Tango, Ricardo" (AVL 3730). The master numbers for this session - as given by Akihito Baba - show a gap: 6492 and 6497 to 6500 - This looks like a really large gap to fill with still unknown recordings... |

Argañaráz (R. Firpo, E. Cadícamo) |
"Argañaraz" is the title of the original
instrumental tango by Firpo. When in 1930, lyrics were added by Enrique
Cadícamo the title changed to "Aquellas farras" but only Gardel
used it. Other versions (D'Arienzo/Laborde, D'Agostino/García, Joaquín Do
Reyes/Lucero) were published with the original title. |
Tango 10-11-66 (AVL-3730) |
|
Bailate Un Tango, Ricardo (J. D'Arienzo, U. Petit de Murat) |
This was D'Arienzo's contribution to the project "14 con el tango" of Ben Molar: 14 tangos from 14 different composers, 14 text writers, with 14 paintings. The 14 tangos were published in november 1966 (Fermata label) on a long play record with an orchestra directed by Alberto Di Paulo, in this case with the voice of Enrique Dumas, accompanying painting by Leopoldo Presas. |
Milonga 17-11-66 and/or 03-01-67? (AVL-3730) |
Armando Laborde |
Amor De Fortinera (C. Lazzari, J. Polito) |
Both Baba and R.G. Miglio (in his discographies of
Osvaldo Ramos and Armando Laborde - in the latter the milonga is mislabeled as a
tango) mention 03-01-67 as the recording date for both Amor De Fortinera and Azul, Siempre Azul. However, the master numbers given by the same Baba suggest 17-11-66 (and that is how they are ordered here) 6516: Amor de Fortinera 6517: Arroro Nené 6518: Azul, Siempre Azul 6519: Virgen de la Serrania 6520: A Orlando Goñi 6521: Al Gran Maestro D'Arienzo If the master numbers are wrong, then we have at least one more gap (6518) with another unknown recording. The most logical explanation could be that these were effectively recorded on 17-11-66 but that for some (technological?) reason the recordings had to be repeated on 03-01-67, reusing the master numbers as attributed on 17-11-66. Whatever the reason was, it must have been convincing, D'Arienzo did not like recording in january... ;-) |

Porqué Porqué Mi Dios (J. D'Arienzo, H.A. Bello Schmitt) |
The recordings from 1968 seem to have been edited on the long play record "D'Arienzo en Japón" (AVL-3819). All these recordings are suspiciously absent in modern CD reeditions. Athough the LP title suggests this, D'Arienzo never went to Japan, in spite of the fact the Japanese emperor offered him a plain (but D'Arienzo had fear of flying), a boat (a voyage which would take too long) and even - so the legend goes - a submarine ! Did the orchestra travel to Japan without its director ? R.G. Miglio vaguely suggested this in his short Alberto Echagüe biography when discussing his third stay in the orchestra, from 1968 on ("Y justamente ese año 1968, viaja a Japón con la orquesta..."). But it seems difficult to find confirmation and the question remains if D'Arienzo would have agreed with it. Note added 2012-11: Royce (thank you !) has confirmed me that effectively the orchestra travelled to Japan WITHOUT its director - much to the disappointment of the Japanese fans. |
