Introduction - Alphabetical index - Miscellanea
1940-1945 Many directors may have had their share of it (it happened to Pugliese and to Di Sarli): in 1940 D'Arienzo sees all his musicians leave, including Alberto Echagüe (to the new orchestra led by Juan Polito). He forms a new orchestra that will include Fulvio Salamanca (piano, stays until 1957), Héctor Varela (first bandoneon), Caetano Puglisi (who introduces the typical violin sound of the orchestra, playing solos on the 4th string) and the singers Alberto Reynal and Carlos Casares. At the end of that year, Carlos Casares is replaced by Héctor Mauré. With Mauré, the orchestra acquires a more lyrical, less rhythmically obsessed style. In 1944, D'Arienzo convinces Alberto Echagüe to come back, starting his second stay with the orchestra. At the end of this period, in 1944, Armando Laborde replaces Héctor Mauré. |

Orq. Típica Víctor (1939). D'Arienzo was given the knickname "El Rey del Compás" already before his first 1935 recordings. The references in the lyrics (no known interpretation) suggest that they were written many years later. Caccavaio, E. Cardenas) |
At the end of 1942, Víctor changed its record
numbering system (from the 3xxxx series to the 60-xxxx series).
We now see clearly that this recording was edited at least 2 months
after its production. The strict rhythm of the early years (2 recorded
- 2 edited, and so on...) gradually eroded from the end of 1941 on, by mixing
recordings of different sessions on a single edition. |

The same composition, but with the original title "Metido", was recorded by Fresedo
(with Roberto Ray, 1932) and Biagi (with Alberto Lago, 1942). Possibly
another case of title change in tango due to radio censorship in 1943
(aimed at banning all popular and Lunfardo expressions) |
